BICYCLE RIDING IN VALENCIA
Rules and recommendations for bicycle circulation through the city
IN VALÈNCIA BICYCLES MUST USE THE AREAS DESIGNATED FOR CYCLISTS AND, in their absence, ON THE ROAD next to other vehicles.
In this case you can use any lane directly next to the sidewalk, whichever is more convenient for your destination. Remember that it is advisable to circulate in the center of the lane; this helps the cyclist maintain his space on the road and to be respected.
ON THE ROAD YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO CIRCULATE IN THE SAME DIRECTION AS THE REST OF THE VEHICLES, only when it is specifically intended may you ride in the opposite direction.
IT IS ADVISED TO USE EXTREME CAUTION AT INTERSECTIONS, especially in bike lanes when they intersect with the road.
When riding you MUST BE VISIBLE, especially at NIGHT WHEN YOU MUST USE APPROVED LIGHTS on the front and rear of the bike.
Remember, for your safety and that of others, IT IS NOT PERMITTED TO USE HEADPHONES OR ANY OTHER MOBILE DEVICES.
IT IS PROHIBITED TO RIDE ON THE SIDEWALK, UNLESS THERE IS A BIKE PATH OR IT IS EXPRESSLY INDICATED. In this case the speed cannot exceed 15km/hour. In pedestrian areas and streets, where there is no prohibited sign and there is a free passage of more than 3 meters, you are allowed to ride a bicycle, always taking into account the preference of pedestrians, keeping a 1 meter distance between you and maintaining a moderate speed of no more than 10m/hour or less.
BOTH ON THE ROAD AND ON BIKE LANES, RESPECT ALL STREET AND YIELD SIGNS. Warn others of your movements in advance by using your arms. Being predictable helps your safety and lets others know your direction. If you are unfamiliar with the city, plan your route before you begin. If you have doubts or you get lost, ask before making a risky decision.
To PARK THE BIKE there are specific parking installations throughout the city. Should there not be any available within 50 meters of your destination or if they are all occupied, you can lock the bike to urban furniture (except trees, lamp posts or building elements), provided you leave a 1,5 meter space free for pedestrians.
